Frequently Asked Questions
DO I STAY WITH THE DOG?
We encourage owners not to stay with their pets as this can be distracting for them and this can sometimes cause unnecessary stress on them.
WHAT DOES IT INCLUDE?
Press here for information on what we include.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
This all depends on the breed of the dog and the condition it is in. My price range is between £20 and £60.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
It is my aim to get dogs done as quickly as possible so that they have a good experience. It is normally between 1hr 1/2 to 2hrs (depending on breed and condition)
DO I NEED TO BOOK?
It is not essential but recommended to guarantee an appointment. There is currently a 6-8 week waitlist.
MY DOG IS NOT GOOD WITH OTHER DOGS...HOW MANY DO YOU HAVE AT ONE TIME?
Unless the dogs are in the same family, only 1 dog is booked per appointment.
DO YOU USE CAGES OR CHAINS?
No! There is not a cage in sight. Once the dog is finished they are free to roam, there are beds, toys and water.
CAN I BRING MY DOGS MEDICATED SHAMPOO?
Absolutely, this is not a problem. If your dog has a bad skin condition and your vet has given you some shampoo, just let me know and bring it with you and I will be sure to use that instead.
WHAT PRODUCTS DO YOU USE?
We use products that are kind to the skin. We also make sure to have a couple of different types of shampoo depending on what will be best suited to the dogs' coat. If the coat is quite grubby, I will use a deep cleansing and deodorising shampoo. If your dogs' coat is sensitive or dry, then I will put a more nourishing shampoo on; which usually has aloe vera and oatmeal in.
CAN I SPECIFY MY STYLE PREFERENCE?
I treat all customers individually and don't stick to one style. I will discuss with you any preferences you may have and what will be best for the dog. It is completely understandable that dogs with thick curly coats can get tangled and out of control. So, if the condition is too severe, I may recommend clipping them back to start again in order to save your dog from any unnecessary discomfort.
DO YOU DO STANDARD BREED CUTS?
Yes I can do the traditional breed cuts if your dog is well maintained. When coats get matted and tangled, it is kinder for the dog to take the hair shorter this time. Then with regular brushing at home, the hair can grow out and be styled to breed specification.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN GROOMING ?
After I left College, I completed a 2 year apprenticeship and have been grooming ever since. That is over 18 years now.
WHAT ARE ANAL GLANDS?
Anal glands are two pockets which are sat either side of the dogs bottom. These can contain a fowl smelling substance. It is completely up to the owner if these are expressed or not. Some dogs need it more then others and some have never had it done before. If you are at home and your dog is doing the famous bum shuffle across the carpet or you smell an unpleasant, 'fishy' smell in their bedding, then it might mean their glands need squeezing.
DO YOU DO HAND STRIPPING?
No, sorry this is not a service we provide.
MY DOG CAN BE A BIT 'NIPPY', CAN THEY STILL COME FOR A GROOM?
A bit 'nippy' is fine. I have humane 'basket' muzzles if needed, although I tend to see how the dog is reacting to the experience and only use a muzzle if necessary.
Biting is not my main concern, it is more the emotional state the dog is in.... If I feel your dog is getting too stressed and worked up, I will call you and discuss options.
WHEN CAN MY PUPPY COME FOR A GROOM?
Your puppy is welcome to an introductory appointment at 4 months old, however, you do not need to start cutting their coat until 6 months. A puppy introductory would be a wash, blowdry, face, bum trim and a nail trim to get them used to the grooming process
